Josiah Goldsmith (Joe) is a contemporary artist working from the UK and S. Korea. Drawing on influences from both East and West, Joe blurs the line between fine art and design.
An earlier piece, but significant to the development of my personal style, this design was produced to be printed on Beer Shop's house lager cans. It was also the first commercial illustration project I took on in Korea.
The piece itself is a modern interpretation of Mucha's Bieres de la Meuse poster, and is made of a composite of different reference images (all relevant to the brand and its customer base).
It was important to communicate warmth, as Jeonpo Lager is primarily a summer drink. The colour palette of the piece was chosen to reflect this, as were the outfits and content of the piece itself.
As with all my work since, this piece was drawn, inked, and painted entirely by hand.
